Iraq


Ty Zeigal was a marine fighting in Iraq. His unit was attacked by a suicide bomber 3 days before Christmas in 2004. Ty lost half of his left arm, several fingers on the other hand, part of his skull, full brain function, and the normality of his life. As he returns home, he is not being provided with adequate medical care. The VA system is not ready to support all the soldiers being injured. Unable to hold a job because 0f his injuries, he anticipated receiving a disability check from the government. No such check has come.

State


A southern Indiana man died when his motorcycle collided with a deer. The man, Charles T. Spaulding, was thrown from his bike. after leaving the motorcycle, Spaulding hit an oncoming car going the opposite direction. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No word on if he was wearing a helmet.

Local


Bounce City, a children's play place devoted to bouncing, declares the recent allegations of being unclean are a result of mixed political beliefs around the community. Health organizations reportidly found cat urine, feces, and other health code violations at Bounce City. Personally, i have been to Bounce City. It was the dirtiest place i have EVER been. Think a bathroom floor, but bouncy.

Technology


Americans throw away thousands of tons of electrical equipment each year. Most of this trash ends up being shipped overseas into impoverished countries such as India and Nigeria. Upon arrival, the poor and ill-equipped workers use their hands and crude tools to extract the usable materials from the scraps, thus exposing themselves to harmful fumes and dangerous metals.

Health


A new killer cold virus has killed at least 10 people over the last year and a half. The virus that normally causes minor chest congestion, has caused a new disease in over 140 people across the country. The virus struck earlier this year when it attacked Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. There are no good treatments for the new adenovirus. The best remedies are aspirin, fluids, and bed rest.

World


A court in Saudi Arabia has increased the punishment of a 19 year old girl who was a victim of a gang raping last year. The girl was punished for meeting with an unrelated male whom she was friends with. Upon meeting, the pair was abducted. Following an appeal by the accusing attourney, the gang rapist's sentence was changed from 5 to 9 years in prison. However, the victoms sentence was also INCREASED from 90 lashings to 6 monthes in prison and 200 lashings. It is part of Arabic religion that woman cannot meet with unrelated males.

Sports


Barry Bonds has been indicted on federal charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. Bonds is being accused of lieing to a grand jury about taking steroids. Barry Bonds and Greg Anderson, his personal trainer, made regular visits to Balco Labs owned by Victor Conte, a known steroids dealer. They put bonds through rigorous testing and then Conte determined a supplement plan that supposidly contained steroids. When asked if he had ever seen the receipts for the transactions, Bonds said no.

Business


Derek Jeter could have to pay the state of New York millions of dollars. Jeter has claimed residence in florida for the past 10 years. Florida has no state income tax. Between 2001-2003, Jeter actually resided in New York City. Jeter bought a pentehouse sweet in Trump Tower in 2001. His annual salary from the New York Yankees averaged out to about 14 million dollars per year.

Election


Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Presidential hopeful John Edwards, encouraged voters to really evaluate a candidates ability. She observed how many people are just supporting Hillary Clinton just to break the "glass ceiling." The glass ceiling refers to the unspoken limits placed on women in todays society. She encouraged voters to vote for the best candidate.

U.S


Parents have long been cautious of the Internet friend site Myspace. Kids can log onto the chatting site and mix-it-up with strangers who could try to lure the minors into compromising situations. Megan Meier of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri thought she had made a new friend. It turned out to be a cruel practical joke. Megan suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder. When the “friend” told her she was cruel, Megan committed suicide. The parents are now calling for Myspace to be responsible for the girls death.
